IEEE Using AI to Voice Configure Legacy Devices

Have you ever struggled to configure a router or some other device? Perhaps you had to bounce around several configuration pages, deciphering the cryptic prompts and keying in the required data. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could have a simple conversation with your computer and have it do the hard work for you?

This presentation explores AI-driven serial interfaces designed to simplify device configuration and network control. By leveraging user queries and providing simplified responses with contextual hints, the system enhances usability while maintaining robust functionality. It incorporates direct and indirect back-channel communication, enabling no-code and no-script administrator-level oversight and control.

The architecture supports real-time communication over wide-area networks (WAN), including Meshtastic, cellular, and mesh networks. This presentation will delve into the technical framework, implementation challenges, and practical applications, offering insights into how AI can streamline complex network interactions while ensuring scalability and security.

Rob will demonstrate a voice conversation with AI to configure a remote legacy serial device remotely using SSH over a Meshtastic WAN connection wirelessly without typing or using the mouse. Gohere
